Controlling Robots a World Away

Team Beta, a robotics team in Iowa recently competed in an event that took place in Australia. The teens shipped their robot more than 9,000 miles to Australia, where the competition was held, and controlled it remotely using a special software. The team knows this kind of technology can be useful for other teams in other competitions, and has written a business plan that members pitch to area businesses while fundraising. They hope that remote operations of robots will allow other students from around the world to compete in US competitions, and vice versa.
